A political action committee at Fox News parent company donated money to moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin’s reelection campaign, a new filing shows.

Fox Corp.’s PAC, which is funded in part by conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch, donated $ 1,500 to Manchin’s re-election campaign in 2024 in June, according to a disclosure to the Federal Elections Commission. The campaign raised just over $ 1.4 million in the second quarter.

It would be the first time that Manchin has received a donation from Fox Corp. PAC, according to a CNBC review of FEC records and data from the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

The revelation comes as Manchin, who represents the state of West Virginia, is facing pressure from conservative voices on Fox News and elsewhere to obstruct and limit the ambitious and costly agenda of President Joe Biden and Democratic leaders. .

Manchin is a pivotal vote in the Senate, where Democrats have a small majority by virtue of Vice President Kamala Harris’s runoff vote. Fox Corp.’s donation came the same month that Manchin wrote an op-ed describing his opposition to removing obstructionism and the Democratic People’s Bill of voting rights.

Manchin has been besieged by outside groups, including those linked to billionaire Charles Koch, to oppose key elements of his party’s agenda.

A Fox Corp. spokesman and representatives for Manchin did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

CRP data shows that during the 2020 election cycle, Rupert Murdoch, the company’s president, donated $ 10,000 to the Fox Corp. PAC. Lachlan Murdoch, his son and CEO of Fox Corp., donated just over $ 2,000. dollars to the committee.

During the previous election, the PAC awarded more than $ 180,000 to the candidates, dividing the sum almost evenly between Democratic and Republican legislators.
